Bloemke, Scarlets shut out Cardinals, 8-0

MANKATO — Senior center Courtney Bloemke served as the Mankato West Scarlets’ driving force behind its 8-0 hockey win over the Fairmont Area Cardinals on Saturday at All Season Arena in Mankato.

Bloemke netted a hat trick with four assists in the win. She scored her first two goals minutes apart in the first period.

Sunshine Langworthy assisted on the power-play goal before McKenna Krosch and Hannah Wieland combined for the double assist on the second.

Langworthy then entered the scoring column, netting a first-period goal with help from Bloemke and Rachel Trautman.

Krosch and Bloemke then helped Sydney Morales to a score for the 4-0 lead after one frame.

Bloemke and Lindsey Hays assisted on Langworthy’s second-period goal, while Krosch used an assist from Kira Sims to knock in a shorthanded goal.

With the pass from Wieland, Bloemke added her final goal scored while also assisting on Hays’ score in the third period.

Sarah Olsen made 11 saves to earn the shutout victory. Emily O’Connor recorded 45 saves for the Cardinals.

Fairmont Area (0-2) hosts Windom Area in its home opener at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.
