Bus offered to state tilt

FAIRMONT — A fan bus is being offered for the Fairmont football team’s 3 p.m. Class AAA state quarterfinal game against Jordan on Saturday in Prior Lake.

Fans can register and pay for a seat at the Fairmont High School activities office from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. today and Wednesday.

The cost is $10 per person.

Fans should sign up early as a decision about a second fan bus will be made if needed.

The bus will load at Fairmont High School at 11:45 a.m. Saturday and depart at noon.

Fairmont Body Shop and Lakeview Funeral Home are sponsoring the fan bus.

Grid tickets go on sale

FAIRMONT — Advance tickets for both the Fairmont-Jordan and Blue Earth Area-Pipestone Area state quarterfinal football games are available for purchase starting today.

Tickets for the Fairmont game will be on sale from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. today and Wednesday at the Fairmont High School activities office.

Tickets for the Blue Earth Area contest will be available for purchase from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. today, Wednesday and Thursday at the Blue Earth Area High School’s office.

Tickets for each of the above games cost $9 per adult and $6 per student.

Blue Earth Area plays Pipestone Area at 8 a.m. Friday night in New Ulm in a Class AA state clash, while Fairmont faces Jordan in a 3 p.m. Class AAA state contest in Prior Lake on Saturday.

Shelton hired as bench coach

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have hired Derek Shelton as their bench coach. The Twins announced the move Monday. Shelton was the Toronto Blue Jays’ quality control coach this year.

The 47-year-old Shelton will be going into his 14th season as a coach in some capacity at the major league level. He previously served as Tampa Bay’s hitting coach from 2010-16 and Cleveland’s hitting coach from 2005-09.

Shelton began his coaching career in the Yankees’ organization in 1997.
