FAIRMONT — Senior striker Brooke Hunwardsen and sophomore forward Lexi Kaufman were selected as the Fairmont Area Cardinals girls soccer team’s co-MVPs for the fall campaign.

Hunwardsen, a first-team all-Big South Conference choice, will join Fairmont Area senior defenders Morgan Shriver and Brielle Meade, and senior goalkeeper Taylor Eicholz in today’s 5 p.m. Section 2A all-star game at Mattke Field on the Southwest Minnesota State University campus in Marshall.

Shriver was tabbed the Cardinals’ defensive MVP for 2017, while junior striker Abby DeWitt netted Fairmont Area’s offensive MVP award.

Jenna Lee Gustafson earned Fairmont Area’s most improved player award, Lily Hohensee was named rookie of the year, while Claudia Bleess received the Cardinals’ spirit award.

DeWitt joined Hunwardsen as a member of the all-Big South Conference first team, while Kaufman and Shriver were selected to the all-conference second team for their performances this fall.
