North Union spikers advance in regional playoffs

ARMSTRONG — Setter Kate Anderson distributed 25 assists, delivered 10 digs and went 10-for-10 serving to help guide the North Union Warriors to a first-round playoff volleyball sweep on Tuesday night in Armstrong.

The Warriors posted game wins of 25-12, 25-21, 25-17, over Okoboji to advance to the second round of the Iowa Class 2A postseason.

North Union (13-17) faces Central Lyon in a Region 1 quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Monday night in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Central Lyon netted an opening-round bye.

Outside hitter Bre Anderson produced a team-leading 16 digs and a team-best nine kills to pace the Warriors’ balanced winning ways. Bre Anderson also completed 10 of her 10 serves on the match.

Middle hitter Hallie Reese supplied eight kills and 14-for-15 serving for North Union, while teammate Dayna Umscheid smacked down five kills.

Kate Anderson also generated four kills, while teammate Chloe Lofstrom collected four kills.

Aly Bierstedt provided 10 digs from a defensive perspective, while producing a 10-for-11 performance from the service area.

Martin Luther/Gran-ada-Huntley-East Chain/ Truman 3, Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 1 — The Jaguars closed out the regular season with a 14-25, 25-14, 25-19, 25-19 win over the Bulldogs on Tuesday night in Granada.

Emma Becker contributed 13 digs and four blocks to the Jaguars’ defensive performance, while teammate Marissa Steinhaus chipped in 12 digs and eight kills.

Jaguars netters Lydia Studer and Michaelah Petrowiak produced five kills apiece, while Lydia Steinhaus dished out 25 assists. Kambria Steinhaus finished with six aces serves.

Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman finished the regular season with a 7-20 record and awaits the outcome of today’s seeding for the Section 2A playoffs, which begin on Monday.

Cleveland 3, Martin County West 1 — The Clippers sailed to a 25-22, 18-25, 26-24, 25-14 Valley Conference win over the Mavericks on Tuesday night in Cleveland.

Maia Taylor recorded 15 set assists for the Mavericks, while Mercedes Moeller had five assists.

No other Martin County West individual statistics were available.

Martin County West ended the regular season with a record of 13-11 and awaits today’s Section 2A playoffs seeding.
