No. Union shuts out Sioux Central

SWEA CITY — Anna Ingalls surpassed 550 career strikeouts as the Class 2A, No. 6-ranked North Union Warriors shut out the Sioux Central Rebels, 12-0 in three innings top open Class 2A, Region 2 playoff action.

“She’s known about it for a little while. So now that she’s hit her 550 (strikeouts), she can not worry about that and concentrate on playing the rest of the regionals,” Warriors head coach Art Ingalls said about Anna Ingalls.

Anna Ingalls finished with four strikeouts and didn’t give up a hit to earn the three-innign victory. She walked one and hit one batter.

North Union (28-6) hosts Western Christian in the region semifinals at 7 p.m. today in Swea City. Western Christian beat Emmetsburgh, 7-1, to advance. Sioux Central ended its season with a record of 5-22.

Anna Ingalls walked Darma Tripp to start the first inning.

But Darma Tripp got out after Warriors catcher Rory McClellan caught Regan Sylvester’s pop out and threw to first before Darma Tripp could get back to the base. Anna Ingalls then struck out Kennedy Hatch to bring out the Warriors’ offense.

Kyarsten Mullen and Madie Rolling got the team’s bats going with a one-out hit each.

Mullen got to third on Rolling’s single and scored on Kate Anderson’s sacrifice fly.

Rolling added the second run when the Rebels dropped a fly ball, also getting Bre Anderson on base. Bre Anderson used consecutive errant pitches to move up to third before scampering home on another wild pitch.

Rory McClellan took the base-on-balls, but was picked off trying to steal second to end the inning.

Shawna Person then led off the bottom of the second inning with a walk for the Warriors. The team then used bunts from Hope Steinberger and Katelyn Thackery to fill the bags.

McKenzie Coffee walked Mullen to score Person for a 4-0 Warriors lead.

Rolling hit a sacrifice fly to right field as Steinberger ran in the Warriors’ fifth run of the game.

Kate Anderson drew a walk to reload the bases as Demi Tripp relieved Coffee. Bre Anderson got a double off the new pitcher, driving in Kate Anderson, Thackery and Mullen.

“When she nailed that ball right to the fence in the gap and we scored three RBIs, that’s when you can start breathing a little bit easier,” Art Ingalls said. “Seeing that hit, it was pretty impressive there.”

The Warriors finished off the game by scoring four more runs in the third inning. Steinberger’s hit dropped into center field to get her on base.

She then stole second and took third on the errant throw to second. She later scored on an errant pitch as Thackery and Anna Ingalls both drew walks.

Thackery used a stolen base and Mullen’s sacrifice fly to make a 10-0 game. Rolling got on base via an error. Rolling and Brooklyn Prochniak, Anna Ingalls’ courtesy runner, were the game-ending runs as Kate Anderson notched a two-RBI base hit with two out.

“We hadn’t hit since last Friday, so we almost had a whole entire week off. We started off a little sluggish on the hitting, but once we got through the batting order twice, we came out hammering it,” Art Ingalls said.

Steinberger went 2-for-2 hitting and scored two runs, while both Bre Anderson and Kate Anderson finished with three RBIs and a run scored.
