JH tracksters compete in 3

ST. JAMES — Fairmont’s junior high boys and girls track & field teams placed third in the St. James Area meet on Monday. The Cardinals girls won the 4×100- and 4×200-meter relay to total 87 points, while the boys garnered 77 points for the third-place finish.

Tyson Kube won the shot put (35-9) and was second in the discus (81-7) for the boys. Hudson Artz recorded a 58.5 for first in the 400-meter dash.

The girls’ 4×200 relay broke the take in 2:02.5 for the win and the 4×100 team timed a 56.6. Vanessa Bliesmer won the 100 in 13.8 and Claire Nemmers jumped 29 feet, 9 inches in the triple jump for first. Sara Sundblad pasted a runnerup time of 30.1.

Four days earlier, Nemmers won the triple jump with a 28-8 and placed second in the 400 (74.59) at the Blue Earth Area Invite.

Bliesmer took titles in the 100 at 14.52, the 400 in 72.27 and high jump (4-0). Rachel O’Connor timed a 19.81 in the 100-meter hurdles for first, while Cadence Becker won the discus (70-6) and the shot put (23-11).

Angelica Kerekes added a win in the long jump with a 12-9 1/2 and Lauren Davis topped the 1,600-meter run with a 6:53.70. Ellie Hernes took the title in the 800-meter run in 3:19.14.

Eighth graders Kaylean Thingstad (21.12) and Tabitha Thatcher (6:07.65) won the 100-meter hurdles and 1,600, respectively. Natalie Tonne threw a 21-8 in the shot put for first.

The Cardinals’ 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams won in 57.50 and 2:02.57, respectively.

On April 28, the Cardinals seventh and eighth grade girls track & field teams won the St. Peter Invitational, while the seventh grade boys finished second with 153 points and eighth-grade boys netted fourth place (80.5) on April 28.

The Cardinals’ seventh grade girls recorded 170 points and the eighth graders generated 139 points in the win.

Seventh grader Laura Thompson won the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:09.77 and took top honors in the 800 in 2:40.

Vanessa Bliesmer timed a 13.69 in the 100 for first, just before Claire Nemmers’ third-place time of 14.19. Nemmers was also third in the triple jump with a distance of 26 feet, 7 1/2 inches. Ellie Hernes placed second in the triple jump (26-9 1/2).

Hannah Linse leaped to a top distance of 4-0 in the high jump.

Cadence Becker threw a winning distance of (70-1) in the discus with a first-place heave of 28-7 in the shot put and placed third in the 200 (30.84). Ginna Harris placed third in both the discus (54-9) and shot put (22-3) events.

Rachel O’Connor added two runnerup performances in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.62 and the 200-meter hurdles, finishing in 36.16.

The Cardinals 4×100-meter relay time took first in a time of 58.37 and third in the 4×400 relay (5:09.99).

Kaylean Thingstad and Sara Sundblad went 1-2 in the open 100 with times of 14.43 and 14.51, respectively, for the Cardinals’ girls eighth-grade team. Sundblad then won the 200 with a time of 30.27 with Eden Becker (30.53) and Sundblad (30.85) finishing second and third, respectively.

The Cardinals’ crossed the finish line in 59.10 to win the 4×100-meter relay. Katie Mueller netted runnerup honors in the 100-meter hurdles (20.17), while Tabitha Thatcher posted a second-place showing of 6:16 in the 1,600-meter run.

Emma Blair timed a 1:17.28 in the 400 and Taylor Shumski posted a 24-0 1/2 in the triple jump with both garnering a third-place finish.

Jake Harris produced a 2:25 win in the 800 to help the Cardinal boys seventh-grade team finish second. Evan Meade took the top spot in the 100-meter hurdles (17.78) and third in the long jump (13-8). Eli Anderson added third-place performances in the 100-meter hurdles (18.63) and the high jump (4-4).

Dominic Loos-Striemer finished as the runnerup in the high jump, recording a distance of 4-4. Dawson Gatewood chipped in a second-best time of 5:35 in the 1,600-meter run.

Caleb Johnson swept the throws, marking a distance of 38-8 in the shot put and 98-11 in the discus. Tyson Kube (34-3) and Kaiden Miller (29-2) went 2-3 in the shot put with Kube netted a third-place finish of 82-2 in the discus.

The Cardinals’ 4×400 relay team posted a 4:41 for second place.

Fairmont’s eighth-grade 4×100 relay squad finished in 52.23 for first place, while marking a third-place time of 4:30.62 in the 4×400-meter relay.

William Saari posted a third-place showing of 38.42 in the 200-meter hurdles. Cesar Flores finished the long jump with a runnerup measurement of 14-7 and Connor Artner leaped to 30-2 for second in the triple jump.
