Fairmont takes 3rd at True Team section track

MANKATO — The Fairmont Cardinals boys and girls track & field teams each placed third in the Section 2AA True Team Meet on Tuesday at Mankato East High School in Mankato.

Belle Plaine and Mankato East totaled 505 points. But Belle Plaine edged out East via a paper meet to advance to the girls Class AA True Team State Meet at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at Stillwater High School. The Cardinals’ girls scored 492.5 points for third place.

Mankato East’s boys team recorded 595 points to advance to the state meet. Mankato West totaled a runner-up 503 points and the Cardinals posted a third-place score of 491 points.

Fairmont thrower Alli Lardy continued to break her 4-day-old record in the shot put of 40 feet, 4 1/2 inches with a throw of 40-10 1/2 to pocket the sectional crown. Brenna Cutler was third in both the shot put (37-11) and the discus (108-7) for the Cardinals, while Claire Cutler threw 99-2 for fifth in the discus.

Jenna Pavich ran to a runner-up time of 60.51 in the 400-meter dash and Joni Becker was fourth with a 62.57 for the Cardinals. Pavich then ran to a sixth-place time of 2:28.05 in the 800-meter run.

Iliana Ramon ran the 3,200-meter race in a second-place time of 11:55.81 just before Fairmont teammate Laura Thompson’s fifth-place run of 12:08.09.

Molly Hawkins garnered a fourth-place spot in the open 800 (2:27.89) and sixth in the 1,600-meter race (5:30.16) for the Cardinals, while teammate Sarah Krumholz placed 11th in the 1,600 with a time of 5:42.38.

Fairmont runners Grace Higgins, Molly Hawkins, Becker and Pavich paced a 4×400-meter relay time of 4:08.24 for second place.

The Cardinals’ Jenna Gustafson, Cori Emler, Brooke Hunwardsen and Savanah Baker combined handoffs for a third-place finish of 1:52.38 in the 4×200 relay.

Lizzy Subbert posted a time of 16.48 in the 100-meter hurdles for fourth place, finished the 300-meter hurdles in 50.76 for 10th, recorded a 4-10 in the high jump for a fifth-place showing and placed 12th in the triple jump (31-7 1/2).

Fairmont’s Emma Koehler ran the 300 hurdles in 50.54 for ninth place and finished the 100 hurdles in 14th place (17.51).

Andrea Thate cleared 7-6 and teammate Brooke Hunwardsen cleared the bar at 7 feet even to place 14th and 16th in the pole vault, respectively, for the Fairmont lineup.

Higgins placed ninth and Baker was 16th in the 100 with times of 13.49 and 14.17, respectively. Higgins then marked a 16th-place time of 29.13 before Gustafson’s 11th-place time of 28.35 in the 200. Baker added a 10th place jump of 32-2 1/4 in the triple jump.

Sadie Sandersfeld recorded a leap of 13-9 3/4 for 19th in the long jump and Hunwardsen was 21st with a 13-6 1/2.

Fairmont’s 4×100 relay team of Emler, Hunwardsen, Gustafson and Baker place fifth (53.14), while Molly Hawkins, Ramon, Becker and Thompson ran the 4×800 relay in 10:26.20 for sixth place.

Like Lardy, Kade Fritz won the shot put with a throw of 45-5 for the Cardinal boys’ lone win. Theo Krumholz posted a third-place heave of 43-9 and was fourth in the discus (120-10), while Conner Tordsen threw the discus 119-5 for sixth.

Hayden Berhow leaped a fourth-best distance of 41-0 in the triple jump and was fifth in the high jump at 6-0 and seventh in the long jump (19-3).

Josh Heinze posted a ninth-place finish in the long jump (18-10) and Tyler Johnson place seventh in the triple jump with 39-3 for the Cardinals. Lucas Simpson placed sixth in the high jump (5-10).

Simpson and Devin Johnson went 8-9 in the 110-meter hurdles with times of 16.79 and 16.97, respectively. Devin Johnson then completed the 300 hurdles in 44.35 for 13th before Simpson’s 17th-place time of 46.04.

Levi Bulfer finished 16th in the 100 with a time of 12.0, ran the 200 in 23.91 for 11th and vaulted to a sixth-place height of 12-0. Nick Thate placed 13th in the pole vault with 10-0.

The Cardinals’ foursome of Leyton Becker, Dayton Pasch, Seth Carlmark and Dylan Kennedy ran to a runnerup finish of 8:31.27 in the 4×800 relay.

Wyatt Quiring added a Cardinal second-place finish in the 400 (51.46) ,took sixth in the 200-meter dash (23.27) and was 12th in the open 100 with an 11.81. Dylan Kennedy ran the 800 in 2:05.32 for third place with Dayton Pasch finished 11th at 2:10.63, and Seth Carlmark placed 15th in the 400 with a time of 55.94.

Andrew Moeller ran the 1,600 in 4:45.82 for seventh and finished eighth in the 3,200 (10:33.89). Leyton Becker placed 15th in the 1,600 with a time of 4:53.67 and Kellen Rodriguez ran the 3,200 in 10:50.56 for 13th.

Shyiem Thomas, Austin Schwidder, Tyler Johnson and Heinze ran the 4×100 relay in 46.82 for fifth, while Leyton Becker, Carlmark, Pasch and Kennedy posted a sixth-place time of 3:36.45 in the 4×400.

Bulfer, Tyler Johnson, Carlmark and Heinze ran the 4×200 relay in 1:38.48 for seventh.

Fairmont hosts the Big South Conference Meet at 10 a.m. Saturday.
