Shoen, Wolter homer Jaguars baseball to victory

TRUMAN — Derek Shoen and Owen Wolter each slugged two-run home runs to power the Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman Jaguars to a 7-1 Valley Conference baseball victory over the St. Clair Cyclones on Tuesday in Truman.

Shoen also collected a single to finish with two of the Jaguars’ eight hits, while Zach Wolter supplied two singles and scored a run.

Garrett Balcom contributed an RBI single and crossed the plate once for the home team, Carter Wille and Quintin Greier each singled and scored a run, while Zach Jahnz added an RBI groundout.

Shoen pitched six shutout innings to earn the victory for the Jaguars. The junior right-hander allowed two hits, struck out six, walked four and hit one batter.

Balcom gave up one run on two hits, fanned one and hit one batter in pitching the final frame.

The Jaguars (2-3) face Martin County West at 5 p.m. Thursday at Fox Lake Sports Complex in Welcome.

St. Peter 2, Blue Earth Area 1 — Owen Little pitched a five-hit complete game while collecting two hits and scoring one run to squeeze the Saints by the Bucs, 2-1, during Big South Conference action Tuesday in Blue Earth.

Little allowed one earned run, struck out seven and did not issue a walk in seven innings to earn the complete-game victory for St. Peter.

Little and Andy Regner each produced two hits and crossed the plate once to highlight the Saints’ offensive effort.

Buc starting pitcher Logan Jahnke turned in a stellar outing by allowing two runs — only one earned — on four hits in seven innings of work. Jahnke struck out six and issued three walks.

Chris Sanders singled and scored BEA’s lone run on Jesus Quintero’s RBI single during the bottom of the first inning.

Jahnke doubled, while Kaylan Legred and Trevor Oppedal each supplied singles for the Bucs.

Blue Earth Area (1-3) faces Fairmont at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Herb Wolf Field in Fairmont.
