Jayhawks’ tracksters place 4th, 5th at meet
ST. JAMES — The Madelia/Truman/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther Jayhawks girls track & field team placed fourth with 80.5 points, while the Jayhawks boys finished fifth (62) during the St. James Area Meet on Tuesday.
The Jayhawks girls 4×400 relay team of Makayla Hall, Renae Wallace, Lizzie Cooling and Hannah Johanson won in 4:31.20. Hall, Amy Denn, Lillian Maul and Alyssa Chloros placed fourth in the 4×100 relay with a time of 56.6.
Sylvia Rodriguez completed the 3,200-meter run in 13:07 for third place, while Johanson (14.2) and Maul (14.2) captured fifth and sixth, respectively, in the open 100.
Johanson won the long jump competition by leaping to a measurement of 15 feet, 6 inches, while Cooling placed fifth with a mark of 14-5.
Cooling added a fourth-place showing of 2:44.20 in the 800 and Abby Calkins timed a 54.1 in the 300-meter hurdles for fourth. Denn marked a runner-up throw of 34-6 in the shot put.
Wallace won the triple jump (31-7) before crossing the finish line in the 110-meter hurdles in a third-best time of 18.4. Calkins was fourth with a time of 18.5 for the Jayhawks.
Ramiro Zamora, John Lagunas, Angel Zamora and Jarly Godoy ran to a second-place finish in the 4×800-meter relay with a time of 9:03.3 for the Jayhawks boys team. The foursome then timed a fourth-place finish of 3:47.6 in the 4×400 relay.
Individually, Angel Zamora completed the 400-meter dash in a second-best time of 54.7 and placed fifth in the triple jump with a 37-4.
Ramiro Zamora marked a fifth-place showing of 57.5 in the open 400, while Josh Sletta jumped to a third-place distance of 38-7 1/2 in the triple jump and 16-10 in the long jump for sixth. He also broke the tape in 11.9 and 24.4 for second in the 100- and 200-meter runs, respectively.
Godoy recorded a sixth-place showing (2:12), Lagunas finished 10th (2:21) in the 800, and Bryant Berhow completed the 1,600-meter run in 5:19.
