Senf nets 4th, FHS girls golf takes 4th; Card boys 8th
FAIRMONT — Fairmont’s boys and girls golf teams ventured to invitationals 65 miles apart to open their seasons on Saturday.
Bergen Senf carded an 18-hole score of 92 to place fourth overall to guide the Cardinals girls lineup to a fourth-place showing at the Worthington event, while Bryan Grotte fired a team-best 80 as the Fairmont boys team placed eighth at the Marshall tournament.
Senf carded back-to-back 46s to pace Fairmont’s team total of 443, while Alexa Mosloski produced a 52-61-113 to net runner-up team honors. Madison Pierce fired a 50-66-116, while Maggy Totzke chipped in a 59-63-122 to complete the counting marks.
Taylor Eicholz contributed a 58-67-125 to the Cardinals’ effort, while Isabell Geiger tallied a 59-72-131.
Anneke Weg generated a medalist performance of 40-47-87 to guide Worthington to a winning score of 402. Hailey Remme fired a 48-46-94 to net fifth overall in pacing Luverne’s runner-up team total of 416.
Hallie Will and Paige Pigman produced a 45-46-91 and a 46-46-92 to pace Windom Area’s third-place score of 419. Will placed second overall, while Pigman won a tiebreaker with Senf on the fifth hole to claim the bronze medal.
Meanwhile in Marshall, Bryan Grotte recorded an 18-hole round of 36-44-80 to top Fairmont’s team total of 358. Tanner DeWar shot a 42-48-90, while Colby Grotte and Tom Havnen each delivered 94s to cap the counting scores. Colby Grotte netted a 49-45, while Havnen chipped in a 52-42.
Alexander Moeller rounded out the Cardinals’ effort by generating a 47-59-106 on the day.
Isaac Burgess tied for second place via a 38-36-74 and Jake Peters shared fifth place with back-to-back 38s for a 76 to guide Minnewaska Area to a winning team total of 311.
Wyatt Blomseth tallied a 38-40-78 to pace Detroit Lakes’ runner-up team mark of 318, while Glavin Schugel tied for second individually with a 39-35-74 to pace New Ulm’s third-place score of 320.
Carson Haley fired back-to-back scores of 36 for a first-place individual total of 72 to pace Mankato East’s fourth-place score of 322.
Fairmont was originally scheduled to travel to Jackson today for a boys-girls meet, but planned to move the event to Tuesday in anticipation of the rainy forecast.
