Barnett tops Bucs in win comeback win over Rebels

WELLS — The Blue Earth Area Bucs boys basketball team pulled away from the United South Central Rebels in the final minutes of the game to pocket a 42-40 victory on Thursday.

The Bucs rebounded from a 22-20 halftime deficit.

Down 35-34, Blake Barnett and Jacob Vaske combined baskets to get the Bucs a lead. Later tied at 38, Barnett used four free throws to give the Bucs the final lead and pocketed one of his three steals on the Rebels’ final possession to seal the win. He finished with 14 points and eight rebounds. Vaske added a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Caelan Sanders totaled six points, and Chris Sanders had three steals for the Bucs, who made 15 of 48 from the field, including 12 of 28 2-pointers, and went 9-for-14 at the foul line.

Jacob Stevermer totaled 10 points and nine rebounds for USC and Colby Klocek had nine points. Sam Zebro chipped in seven rebounds and four assists.

Blue Earth Area (5-18) awaits Monday’s seeding for the Section 2AA playoffs, which start next Thursday.
