Cutler powers Fairmont cagers by Medford
MEDFORD — Fairmont center Claire Cutler posted game-bests of 20 points and seven rebounds to power the Cardinals to a 68-50 nonconference basketball victory over the Medford Tigers on Tuesday night in Medford.
Taylor Crissinger delivered 11 points, distributed a game-high eight assists, grabbed six rebounds and pocketed four steals to pack punch to the Cardinals’ winning ways.
Brenna Cutler contributed 11 points and five rebounds to Fairmont’s effort, while teammate Lexi Lunn supplied seven points, six assists and six rebounds.
Alli Lardy chipped in seven points, while Brooke Hunwardsen tallied six points and garnered four steals for the Cardinals, who made 26 of 48 shots from 2-point range. The red-and-white lineup also connected on 3 of 10 from 3-point territory and sank 7 of 13 free throws.
Fairmont (11-14) travels to Mankato Loyola on Thursday night for a regular-season game.

Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 68, St. James Area 25 — Hanna Geistfeld produced 17 points, seven rebounds, six steals and four assists to engineer the Jaguars’ 43-point non-league triumph over the Saints on Tuesday night in Granada.
Kenlie Pytleski collected 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds for the Jaguars, while Emma Becker and Hannah Johanson netted eight points apiece.
Johanson also doled out three assists, Alexis Brummond distributed four assists, while Macy Quinn chipped in four steals.
The Jaguars made 28 of 66 field goals and 10 of 15 free throws on the game.
Ashley Frederickson scored 15 points to top the Saints, who made 10 of 32 field goals, including 5 of 16 from 3-point range. The Saints did not attempt a free throw.
GHEC/Truman/Martin Luther (22-4) opens Section 2A, South Sub-Section playoff action Tuesday night by playing host to Mountain Lake Area in Granada.
Worthington 54, Martin County West 37 — The Trojans held the Mavericks to only 10 second-half points to pull away for the 17-point nonconference win on Tuesday night in Worthington.
Alyssa Williamson generated 15 points, pocketed five steals and grabbed four rebounds to pace the Mavericks’ effort.
Maia Taylor contributed six points, five steals and four boards for MCW.
Sierra Williamson chipped in six points and three assists for the Mavericks, while Cheyenne Owens tallied five points.
The Mavericks made 14 of 38 field goals, including 2 of 9 behind the arc, and sank 7 of 16 free throws on the game.
Martin County West (14-9) plays host to Jackson County Central at 7 p.m. Saturday in a Section 3AA, South Sub-Section quarterfinal game in Trimont.

New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 62, Blue Earth Area 43 — Betsy Schoenrock completed a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, in addition to three steals and two blocks, in the Panthers’ non-league win over the Bucs on Tuesday night in New Richland.
Kayley Camerer added 16 points and three assists, while Maddie Wagner tallied six points, seven rebounds and seven assists for the Panthers. Marnie Wagner scored seven points to complement eight rebounds and Rachel Collins chipped in nine points.
No Blue Earth Area individual or team statistics were reported.
Both New Richland-Hartland-Ellendal-Geneva (21-5) and Blue Earth Area (10-12) await the outcome of today’s Section 2AA playoff seedings. Playoffs begin next Tuesday.

New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 57, Blue Earth Area 36 — Oakley Baker delivered 16 points and six rebounds to steer the Panthers to a 21-point nonconference win over the Bucs on Tuesday night in Blue Earth.
Benji Lundberg netted 12 points for NRHEG, while Tyler Raimann supplied seven points and nine rebounds.
The Panthers made 22 of 51 field goals and 12 of 15 free throws, while the Bucs hit 16 of 48 field goals and 1 of 6 at the line.
Blake Barnett poured in a game-best 19 points to top Blue Earth Area, while Jacob Vaske delivered a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Blue Earth Area (4-18) travels to Worthington on Friday night for a Big South Conference cross-over game.

Iowa District 3 Playoffs
West Hancock 54, North Union 36 — The Eagles held the Warriors to only 12 second-half points to produce a 56-36 victory during the Iowa Class 1A, District 3 semifinals on Tuesday night in Britt, Iowa.
West Hancock (17-6), who had beaten North Union twice during the regular season, faces Newell-Fonda in the finals at 7 p.m. Thursday in Humboldt, Iowa. Newell-Fonda topped Bishop Garrigan, 73-68, in double overtime to make the finals.
North Union ends its season with a record of 12-11.
Trent Pedersen tallied nine points to top the Warriors’ scoring effort, while teammate Riley Bauer netted six points and six rebounds.
Elliott Hagebock contributed eight points for North Union, while Nathan Eaton grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists.
Seth Weiland led the Eagles with 20 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocks. Dylan Eckles chipped in a double-double performance of 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Ben Eisenman totaled seven points and eight assists.
