PeeWee A team 1-1 in weekend action

FAIRMONT — Fairmont PeeWee A hockey team had one win and one loss in back-to-back games on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, Fairmont lost to New Ulm/Sleepy Eye, 7-2, at Martin County Arena.

Alec Reutzel scored a power-play goal in the first period with an assist from Eli Anderson for Fairmont. Reutzel and Anderson then assisted on Dominic Hegdal’s goal in the second period.

Fairmont finished with 31 shots on goal. Netminder Carsen Musser made 33 saves for the home team.

Fairmont traveled to Worthington on Sunday and wn, 2-0. Musser rejected 34 shots to record the shutout.

Reutzel gave an assist to Anderson, who netted a score in the first period. Lincoln Becker added another first-period goal, unassisted, as Fairmont tallied 23 shots on goal in the contest.

Fairmont 8th graders sweep New Ulm

FAIRMONT — Both Fairmont eighth-grade teams pocketed wins against New Ulm on Tuesday.

Jacob Melsha led Fairmont’s A team with 10 points in the 36-31 win over New Ulm. The Cardinals were up, 21-12, at halftime.

Tanner Rosch and Thomas Klanderud each netted eight points, and Jackson Francis had five.

Jackson Utermark added three points to the Cardinals’ scoring column, while Ty Wintheiser chipped in two.

The Cardinals’ B team defeated New Ulm, 32-17. The Cardinals outscored New Ulm, 14-7, in the first half and limited New Ulm to 10 in the second.

Steve Schrunk and Rosch had a co-team-best eight points. Wintheiser and Jackson Francis both tallied six points in the win. Ameya Komaragiri and Colby Grotte recorded two points apiece.
