Fairmont is supposed to be an attended airport. That means the FBO Mr.Pelzer needed to be at the airport,taking care of the airport not his dock business. His business at the airport was a direct violation of the FAA guidelines for airport managers and could have resulted in Fairmont loosing funds. There are success-full airports doing aviation business.

I think posting this question on the page is in very poor taste. Whether or not they made the right decision, a man has lost his job. He has many other issues to contend with and should not have to contend with having the whole city chime in about it. there will be enough coffee shop talk about him already. Shame on you Sentinel.

I voted "Not Sure", and what I'm not sure of is two things. First, I'm not sure the city council's expectations of Pelzer are realistic. There's a saying, "It's easy to make a small fortune in aviation. Just start with a large one." Expecting the FBO of a facility like FRM not to have a sideline business is dubiously realistic. Since fuel is self-serve, I don't see why the FBO must be on the premises full-time, and on-call 24/7. Flight schools need enough students to pay the bills and the instructor. FBOs liking money as much as the rest of us, something tells me it isn't happening because there are few, perhaps no, interested students. There are not enough students because aviation is no longer that trendy; and the training for a private license can run several thousand dollars. Which leads to Item# 2: I think the council overestimates the number of people who are interested in taking over. It's a good way to go broke.
