MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — A leading college football player at Minnesota State University Mankato last season has been charged with attempted murder in what police say was a drug-related shooting.

Twenty-five-year-old Dennis Carter, of Mankato, is charged in Scott County with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and fleeing police. Carter is in jail on $75,000 bail.

Authorities say Diaa Ahmed Abdelhakim was shot in the neck on Aug. 20 outside the Renaissance Festival grounds near Shakopee and survived his wounds.

The Free Press (http://bit.ly/VNFDYX ) reports Carter was arrested by sheriff's deputies following a short chase.

Carter led the Mavericks with 964 receiving yards and nine touchdown receptions in 12 games as a senior.
