MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Authorities say the teenage boy who drowned in a Minneapolis lake was swimming with teammates after football practice.

Fifteen-year-old Sha-Kym Adams was entering his sophomore year at Minneapolis South High School, where he was a wide receiver on the football team.

Hennepin County Sheriff's Lt. Art Saunders says some of Adams' team members heard him cry out as they swam to a floating dock in Lake Nokomis. The boys tried to find Adams after he disappeared under water.

About 100 family members, friends and teammates gathered at the beach Thursday for a vigil, and released 15 balloons into the air.

The Star Tribune reports (http://strib.mn/1y9ywpL ) that Adams' mother, Kimberly Adams, told the crowd her son knew how to swim, and that his friends shouldn't feel guilty.
