LOS ANGELES (AP) — A spokesman for the University of California, Los Angeles, says 739 vehicles were in underground garages flooded by a burst water main and about half were totally submerged.
Ricardo Vazquez says the university is asking people to stay away as the effort to pump water out continues Wednesday.
The automobiles are only part of the damage that occurred when a nearly century-old pipeline burst under Sunset Boulevard and spewed an estimated 8 million gallons of water onto the campus.
UCLA says six facilities were damaged by the flood, including Pauley Pavilion, the famed basketball arena.
There are no reports of injuries.
City utilities officials say repair of the pipeline will take time, but no customers are without water.
