MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Diocese of Winona has released details about 14 priests who have been credibly accused of sexually abusing children.
The diocese says it's releasing the information voluntarily, in an effort to be transparent and promote healing.
The names of the accused priests were made public in December as part of a court order. But details about the accusations against them weren't revealed. In some cases, the summaries include details on when the diocese first learned of the accusation. The summaries also include the priests' assignment histories.
The diocese says nearly all of the abuse happened in the 1970s and 1980s, and many priests received treatment then were cleared to return to ministry. Now, more is known about pedophilia and second chances aren't an option.
