MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Diocese of Winona says it's releasing an "abuse summary" and details about 13 priests who have been credibly accused of sexually abusing children.
The diocese says it's releasing the information voluntarily, in an effort to be transparent and promote healing.
The names of the accused priests were made public in December as part of a court order. But details about the accusations against them weren't revealed.
The diocese says nine priests on the list are dead and two have been laicized, or removed from the priesthood. Two more have laicization pending.
The diocese says nearly all of the abuse happened in the 1970s and 1980s, and many priests received treatment then were cleared to return to ministry. Now, more is known about pedophilia and second chances aren't an option.
