INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Minn. (AP) — Sandbagging is under way in the International Falls area of far northern Minnesota because of rising waters on Rainy Lake and the Rainy River.
WDIO-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1uuGkAP ) the center of the sandbagging operation has been City Beach. The station says crews are sandbagging all over the northern part of the Koochiching County in an effort to protect homes and businesses.
The owners of Thunderbird Lodge on Rainy Lake say their docks are under water and the lake is three feet higher than normal.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says Highway 11 is closed about 16 miles west of International Falls due to flooding on the Rainy River, which runs along the U.S.-Canadian border.
