WELCOME - A Celebration of Life for Esther Sophie Craig, 94, of Welcome, will be Sunday, Aug. 10, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 214 Dugan St. N, Welcome, Minn., with Rev. Wayne Fritzinger officiating.

Esther joined the King of Kings on Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at Mala Strana Assisted Living of New Prague where she resided since November 2010. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the church; the memorial service will be at 2 p.m., followed by burial in the church cemetery and a luncheon in the church fellowship hall.

Esther Sophie Rosenberg, the youngest of seven children, was born Aug. 26, 1919, in Manyaska Township, to Herman and Bertha (Simon) Rosenberg. Esther was a lifetime member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, where she sang in the choir, was a backup organist, was a member of the afternoon Guild and served on the spiritual care and finance boards. She attended grade school at District 51 in Rolling Green Township. She graduated from Welcome High School in 1940 and received her RN diploma from St. Lucas School of Nursing, Faribault, Minn. in 1945. Her nursing career began at Fairmont Community Hospital. On Nov. 6, 1946, she was united in marriage to James Robert Craig. They farmed in rural Welcome. In 1968, they moved to Welcome. Esther was employed at Trimont Community Hospital for six years and then at Fairmont Community Hospital until retiring in 1985. Her husband passed away on March 26, 1986. Esther was passionate about helping others and continued to kindle that passion through serving in home health nursing through the community. She also was a member of the Welcome American Legion Auxiliary for over 61 years and a lifetime member of the Fairmont Community Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, reading, traveling and playing cards.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and gatherings with siblings, nieces and nephews.

Survivors include: sister-in-law, Neva (Roy) Rosenberg; son, Steven (Linda Cronk) of Welcome; three daughters, Susan (Palmer) Welcome of New Prague, Rosemary (Kevan) Brekke of Burnsville, Dawn Flohre and friend, Curt Stanton of Mankato; six grandchildren, Shane (Erin Ludewig) Craig, David (Autumn) and Greg (Jennifer) Welcome, John (Kaitlyn Weernick) Brekke, Brody (Lydia Harlow) Cook, Gavin (Melissa Hecht) Flohre; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Trent Dale Craig; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hulda (Ted) Ask, Emma (Henry) Grussing; brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank (Viola) Rosenberg, Alwin (Mildred) and Dewey (Norma); and brother, Roy.
