FAIRMONT - A memorial service for Dewayne E. "Bud" Nutt, 79, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial of ashes with full military honors by the Martin Co. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1222 and the Lee C. Prentice American Legion will follow the service in Fairview Memorial Park, Fairmont.

Bud passed away Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont.

Dewayne Earl "Bud" Nutt was born June 1, 1935, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Earl and Regina (Prochniak) Nutt. Bud grew up in Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1953. Bud entered the U.S. Air Force in Jan. of 1955, and served in the U.S., Japan, and North Africa. He was honorably discharged in January 1959, and returned to Fairmont. In January 1961, he was united in marriage to Delores Spangler and they had two sons together, Brian and Alan. They later divorced. Bud worked for Hodgman and Sons hauling heavy equipment for 10 years before owning and operating the Welcome Caf for two years. From 1972 until 1986, Bud owned and operated the Lake Aires Supper Club in Fairmont, and from 1986 until 2008, Bud managed the Fraternal Order of the Eagle's Club in Fairmont. Bud was a charter member of the Eagle's Club in Fairmont where he served as the secretary. He was honored as the Eagle Member of the Year several times and spearheaded the fundraiser for the local Aerie and the Jimmy Durante Foundation. Bud rooted for the Minnesota Vikings, enjoyed playing cribbage and took great pride in caring for his acreage. A lot of people will remember Bud for his gift to gab, storytelling and his great sense of humor.

Those who will cherish his memory include his soulmate, Kelly Ziemer of Fairmont; two sons, Brian Nutt and his wife, Sandy, Johnson of Fairmont, Alan Nutt and special friend, Judy Sheets, of Fairmont; one brother, Jerry Nutt and his wife, Mary of Fairmont; sister, Diane Vonnahme and her husband, Ken of Buffalo Center, Iowa; Kelly's children, Debbie (John) Eubanks, Dale Ziemer, Rick Ziemer, Julie (Dave) Lamaak; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents.
