GRANADA - Students at Granada-Huntley-East Chain will get to sleep in one day a month during the school year, following action by the school board Thursday.
Superintendent Dale Brandsoy proposed the two-hour late starts as a way for staff development in technology.
In addition to Dec. 1 and Feb. 17, which already were on the school calendar as late starts for staff development, the board added Sept. 22, Nov. 17, March 23 and April 20 for delayed starts.
The 2014-15 calendar has full staff development days slated for October and January.
"We need to get the staff involved [with technology]," Brandsoy said. "This way, we keep things moving throughout the year."
Brandsoy announced that all teaching positions, including part-time ones, have been filled. A back-to-school workshop for staff will be held the last week in August.
In other news at GHEC, the student handbook is in the process of being updated to include the district's bullying policy, which is being adapted from state guidelines. The only other alteration involves a change in suspension times for student violations.
In other business, Brandsoy said he hopes to see the district's website upgraded and "user-friendly with all the information we want." Several options are being considered.
The board also raised the price of adult lunches to $3.40, a 15-cent increase, to comply with federal regulations.
