Milton ‘Milt’ J. Zenk

FAIRMONT - Mass of Christian Burial for Milton "Milt" J. Zenk, 91, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Fairmont with military honors provided by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County VFW Post 1222.

Milt passed away Wednesday evening, July 16, 2014, at the Transitional Care Unit of The Colony in Eden Prairie, Minn. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, July 21, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are preferred to the St. John Vianney Endowment Fund.

Milton John Zenk was born Jan. 3, 1923, in Remsen, Iowa, the son of Casper and Anna (Lenertz) Zenk. Milt graduated from Belgrade High School in Belgrade, Minn. On Jan. 9, 1946, Milt enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force. He served in Medics FWAAF Hospital and the Registrar's Office at Ft. Worth Army Air Field. He achieved the rank of Corporal before receiving an honorable discharge on Dec. 22, 1948. On Sept. 1, 1947, Milt was united in marriage to Adeline "Bunny" Czeck at the Army Air Force Chapel in Ft. Worth, Texas. This union was blessed with five children: Linda, Jan, Ronald, Debbie and Alan. The couple moved to Fairmont in 1950, and made their home there while sharing over 66 years together. Milt was an inventor and engineer. During his career, he designed and manufactured tractor cabs (called Cabillacs), bottle washers, Brute Cycles (three-wheeled recreational vehicles), can crushers (CanCyclor), vegetable tray fillers for Armour Foods, and numerous other inventions. It usually started with someone saying, "Milt, could you make a." He also worked at various manufacturing operations as foreman and manager, including Hancor, Armour Foods and Conagra. He retired in 1987. Along with his lifetime membership to the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36, Milt was also a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1957. He loved his church, and his involvement at St. John Vianney included Trustee, Pastoral Council, School Board, Usher, Building Committee, and Security Council. He willingly changed the inspirational messages on the exterior church sign bi-weekly for 19 years.

Left to honor his memory include his wife, Adeline Zenk of Eden Prairie, Minn.; children, Linda (Chubby) Prchal of Indianapolis, Ind., Jan Zenk of Edina, Minn., Ron (Lori) Zenk of Shorewood, Minn., Debbie (Tim) Swanson of Rochester, Minn., and Alan (Kathy) Zenk of Plymouth, Minn.; grandchildren, Amy (Eric) Peterson of Zionsville, Ind., and Steve (Lona) Prchal, of Fishers, Ind., Lisa (Ian) Lawrow of Minneapolis, Minn., Katie Koga of Missoula, Mont., Carter Zenk and Mackenzie Zenk, both of Shorewood, Minn., Alexander Smith and Beth (Mark) Peterson, of Rochester, Minn., Jamie (Chris) Larson of Kenyon, Minn., and Andrew and Tony Zenk, both of Plymouth, Minn.; great- grandchildren, Brady and Ava Peterson, Beau Prchal, Sierra and Anara Lawrow, and Ryan Peterson; brother, Irvin (Mary) Zenk of Albert Lea, Minn.; twin sister, Marian Campbell of Hastings, Minn.; sister-in-law, Phyllis Zenk of Olivia, Minn.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Dee Czech and Floyd and Janet Czech; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, Casper and Anna Zenk, Milt was preceded by Alois and Theresa Czeck; brothers, Norbert, Walt, Clarence, Elmer and Paul Zenk; sister, Florence Whitman; brothers-in-law, Wayne Czeck, Dale Czech, Oliver Czech, Gene Case, Howard Whitman, and Wilford Campbell; sisters-in-law, Helen Zenk, Phyllis Zenk, Gloria Zenk, Myrtle Zenk, and Dinah Czech.
