CARLTON - Russell Eugene Stuart, age 69, of Carlton, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Bayshore Health Care in Duluth. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 27, 2014, at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet, followed by a luncheon in the fellowship room.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Friday, June 27, at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Interment will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2014, in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
He was born Sept. 21, 1944, in Superior, Wis., to George and Irene (Cooper) Stuart and attended St. Croix High School in Solon Springs, Wis. Russell served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1967, serving in Vietnam. After returning from Vietnam, he married Mary Eischen in 1968 in Guckeen, Minn. Russell was a logger in northern Minn. until 1977, when he joined the Operating Engineers Local 49 as a heavy equipment operator, working all over the U.S. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Tammy (Jeff) Wilson, and Russell (Jennifer) Stuart; his significant companion, Brenda Volkmann; brothers, Samuel (Ruth) Stuart, Orville (Vicki) Stuart, and Robert (Sonja) Stuart; one sister, Georgetta Hoag (Les Taylor); three grandchildren, Paige, Ian, and Jessica; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lawrence Stuart; and one sister, Alberta Stuart.
