Myrle Lucille (Reed) Miller was born June 6, 1915, near Beatrice, Neb., the daughter of Walter and Effie (Swett) Reed. Myrle attended Sunday School and church at the Ellis, Neb., Methodist Church. She was baptized in Wymore by Rev. Earnest Powell. Myrle attended school in Ellis and high school in Beatrice. She took pride in her 8th grade honor certificate for good penmanship. On Aug. 25, 1935, Myrle was united in marriage to Orval Diehl Miller in a double wedding ceremony with Myrle's brother, Dale Reed, and Orval's sister, Ruth Miller, at the Walter Reed farm home in Gage County, Neb. A family friend, Rev. Earnest Powell, officiated. The couple came to Kossuth County on their honeymoon and then farmed in the Bancroft, Seneca, and Swea City, Iowa areas. First Baptist Church activities were an important part of their lives. Myrle worked alongside Orval in all aspects of farming - field work, milking cows, and raising chickens and livestock. She also worked 14 years at the Shottenkirk Cafe and 17 years at the Montgomery Cafe in Swea City. At age 72, she retired from her part-time job at the Swea City chicken plant. Special interests of Myrle's included music, singing, embroidery, latch-hook and gardening. She was well-known for her pies, cookies and potato salad and enjoyed raising tomatoes and sharing them with friends. Myrle loved to design and make quilts for her family.

Left to cherish Myrle's memory are: her two children, Carol (Pastor Bob) Moritz of Grinnell, Iowa, and Donald (Irene) Miller of Burt, Iowa; six grandchildren, Stephen Moritz, Valorie (Gary) Larsson, Stephanie (Michael) Moran, Jon (Jodi) Miller, James (Gail) Miller, Jared (Krystal) Miller; 17 great-grandchildren, Nikki Galles, Michael, Erica, Taylor and Nicholas Moritz, Hans and Thea Larsson, Matthew, Anthony and Mason Moran, Andrew, Ashley and Anna Miller, Amber and Abbie Miller, Baily and Colby Miller; two great-great-granddaughters, Kiana and Tara Felber; brothers, Lester Reed of Overland Park, Kan., and Gerald Reed of Funk, Neb.; and nieces and nephews.
