LEDYARD, Iowa - Phyllis Richardson, age 85, died Monday, April 28, 2014, at Heritage Nursing Home in Bancroft. She had been a resident there since March, 2014.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church, in Ledyard with Pastor Tim Diehl, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery, Ledyard. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today (Thursday) at Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church, Ledyard, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Phyllis Jean Richardson was born Oct. 22, 1928, in Ledyard, Iowa, the daughter of Alvin and Ethel (Pingel) Busch. She grew up near Ledyard and graduated from Ledyard Community High School in 1946. Phyllis was married to John "Swede" Richardson on Feb. 22, 1948, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed in Terrill, Iowa, for a short time and then moved to the Ledyard area where they farmed all their married life. Phyllis loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed going to Long Lake in the summer and spending her winter months in Arizona. She also enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, and reading. She was a very faithful person and was active in Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by five children, James (Sherry) Richardson of Lester Prairie, Minn., Terry Richardson of Mesa, Ariz., Jerry (Roxanne) Richardson of Swea City, Iowa, Dave Richardson of Mesa, Ariz., and Vickie (Jerry) Wegener of Chandler, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, Jason (Jenn Brocato) Richardson of Sauk Rapids, Minn., Matthew (Amy) Richardson, of Brownton, Minn., Travis (Liz) Richardson of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Jesse Richardson of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Brock Richardson of Springfield, Mo., Jon (Jackie) Richardson of Ledyard, Danielle Richardson of Swea City, Crystal (Jake) Eischen of Ledyard, Nicole Wegener of Chandler, Ariz., and Natalie Wegener of Chandler, Ariz.; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Aug. 15, 1991; two grandchildren, Jeremy Richardson and Chelsie Wegener; five brothers, Kenneth, Leroy, Myron, Leo, and Melvin Busch; and one sister, Wilma McPherson.
