FAIRMONT - Visitation for Scoby Nicholas King, 73, of Luverne, Minn., formerly of Fairmont, Minn., will be 1-2 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. A graveside service with full military honors by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and the Martin County VFW Post 1222 will be held following the visitation at 2:15 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, at Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont.

Scoby passed away Wednesday morning, April 30, 2014, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne, Minn.

Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is in charge of the arrangements.

Scoby Nicholas King was born April 26, 1941, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Scoby and Leone Marie (Deuterman) King. He attended school in Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1959. Scoby then went on to earn his bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota. Scoby enlisted in the U.S. Army on Nov. 1, 1963, and was stationed in Bethlehem, Pa. He received an honorable discharge on Oct. 30, 1966, and while in the service, worked as a Secret Service agent. Scoby was united in marriage to Peggy "Margaret" in Pennsylvania. This union was blessed with a daughter, April. The couple later divorced. After his service, Scoby worked briefly in Minneapolis before moving to the Minnetonka-Chaska area where he owned and operated as a gunsmith at King's Arms Company. He then moved to Deadwood, S.D., where he lived and worked for 20 years. Scoby later moved to the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Luverne, Minn., in 2006. He was an accomplished musician, chef, and handyman.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, April Hooper of Pennsylvania; cousins, Karen King of Cumberland, Wis., Richard (Mei) King of Calif., Greg (Dianne) King of Fairmont, Minn., Annette (Drew Gresll) King of Wayzata, Minn., and Sally (Pat) Ash of Hugo, Minn.; as well as many other extended family and friends.

Scoby was preceded in death by his father and mother, Scoby and Leone King; and half-siblings.
