FAIRMONT - Private family services for John M. Petterborg, 60, of Fairmont, Minn., formerly of St. James, Minn., will be held at a later date.
John passed away Monday evening, March 31, 2014, at his home in Fairmont.
Lakeview Funeral Home of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
John Maclin Petterborg was born Feb. 20, 1954, in Phoenix, Ariz., the son of Norman and Ruth (Skinner) Petterborg. John attended school in Phoenix. On Feb. 22, 1972, John enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He served his country proudly and earned his honorable discharge on May 8, 1974. On Oct. 23, 1982, John was united in marriage to Carolin Kasch in Mesa, Ariz. Together, the couple made their home in Arizona and later moved to St. James, Minn., before moving to Fairmont. John worked for many years as an apartment manager and maintenance manager and also worked other various jobs before retiring in 2006. In his spare time, John enjoyed watching country western shows on TV, especially anything with John Wayne. He also enjoyed playing Texas Hold'em.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Carolin; daughter, Shana, and her husband, Jose; grandchildren, Ethan and Elena; father, Norman Petterborg; sister, Brenda Mills and her husband, Steve of Arkansas; nephews, Shawn Petterborg and family of Stockton, Kan., and Jeramy Jones and family of Woodinville, Wash.; sister-in-law, Connie Groff and family of New Ulm, Minn., and many other nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Petterborg; son, John Petterborg Jr.; and niece, Stefanie Mills.
