ST. PAUL - Three area wrestlers claimed medalists honors in the Class AA and Class A Individual State wrestling tournament on Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
After going undefeated during Day 1 of the tournament, Fairmont/Martin County West senior Kory Brown finished with fourth-place honors in the Class AA, 195-pound bracket.
Blue Earth Area junior and Madelia/Truman/Martin Luther senior Jake Denn each grabbed sixth-place honors in the 285 and 195-pound brackets in Class A action.

In the 195-pound semifinals, Brown was facing the defending Class A, 195-pound champion and No. 1-ranked Lance Benick from Totino Grace.
Unfortunately for Brown, Benick pinned the him in 52 seconds to send the Red Bull to the consolation bracket.
Benick, meanwhile went on to defend his 195-pound title, beating Foley's No. 6-ranked, 195-pounder Mitch Struffert with a technical fall, 20-5.
In the consolation semifinal Brown rebounded, pinning Kasson-Mantorville's Chase O'Connor 12 seconds into the second period.
That guaranteed Brown a medal, as he wrestled in the third-place match.
After Brown had beating Albert Lea's No. 3-ranked 195-pounder, Triston Westerlund in an 8-7 decision in the quarterfinals, the pair faced off for third-place.
This time, Westerlund got the better of the Brown, beating him in a 7-1 decision to give the Brown a fourth-place finish.
Denn, who started out Day 2 of the Class A 195-pound competition in the consolation bracket, beat his first opponent, Tanner Templin from Blackduck/Cass Lake Bena in a 9-8 decision.
The No. 8-ranked 195-pounder Wyatt Richardson from Grand Meadow/Le Roy-Ostrander/Kingsland was waiting to face Denn in the consolation semifinals.
Richardson pinned Denn in 3:54 to advance to the third-place match, while Denn was sent to the fifth-place match.
Denn then faced West Central Area's Hunter Fick for the right to a fifth-place finish.
Fick took the 6-4 win, giving the Jayhawk senior a sixth-place medal in the tournament.
Buc junior, Granados, also finished out his 285-pound bracket with a sixth-place medal.
The No. 3-ranked 285-pounder, Granados, opened up Day 2 of the tournament with a semifinal match in the 285-pound bracket against No. 1-ranked Alex Schroepfer from Wabasso/Red Rock Central.
Schroepfer, who had won all but one of his matches this season by pin, with Granados the only opponent to give him a three period match during the regular season, captured his 44th win and 43rd pin of the season to beat the Buc junior in 51 seconds.
In the consolation bracket, Crosby-Ironton's No. 5-ranked 285-pounder Cole Grinsteinner shut out Granados in a 1-0 decision to advance to the third-place match.
Granados, meanwhile went up against the No. 7-ranked 285-pounder Tanner Welsh from Dover-Eyota for fifth place.
Welsh blanked Granados, taking the 1-0 win.
The lone area wrestler who competed on Day 2 that did not reach the podium was the Red Bulls' Class AA, No. 8-ranked 152-pounder Joe Weber.
Weber faced the No. 2-ranked 152-pounder Carter Holthaus from Albany in the opening round of the consolation bracket.
Unfortunately for Weber, Holthaus shut him out, taking the 13-0 major decision. Holthaus went on to win fifth-place honors with a 7-5 win over Monticello's Carter Barnes.
