Steven "Steve" Wayne Thompson was born Feb. 29, 1948, at Fairmont Community Hospital in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Richard L. and Charlotte M. (Fenton) Thompson. Steve lived with his parents and brother Larry in rural Fairmont until he moved to Faribault in 1952. Steve would later live in Willmar and St. Peter, before making his home at ELM North in Waseca. Steve enjoyed his time at Waseca and worked at Jobs Plus while living there. In 2005, Steve moved to REM Heartland in Fairmont to be closer to family and worked at STEP Inc.

Steve was a kind and gentle soul, but you knew when you were in trouble when you got "the look." He loved spending time outdoors and looked forward to warm summer days attending local parades. His favorite treats were chocolate ice cream and gourmet suckers. Steve especially enjoyed going to movies and listening to Country Western music. He will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched.

Left to cherish his memory is his brother, Larry Thompson and his wife, Carolyn, of Fairmont, Minn.; nephew, William "Bill" Thompson and his wife, Staci; niece, Kate Magnussen; grand-nieces, Morgan Magnussen and Taylor Aukes; his guardian and wonderful friend, Janet Guerdet-Meyer; and all of Steve's caregivers and friends at REM and STEP Inc.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Charlotte Thompson.
