NEW ULM - Martin County Area freshman phenom Bryanna Peterson captured the all-around crown to power the Magic to a 138.025-134.575 victory over the New Ulm Eagles during South Central Conference gymnastics action Friday night in New Ulm.

Peterson generated a total of 35.675 points to engineer Martin County Area's season-high team score. The injury-hindered Magic had not reached the 138-point plateau prior to dual-meet action on the equipment in New Ulm.

Peterson captured top accolades on the floor exercise by meriting a 9.325, while swinging her giants to chalk up the uneven parallel bars title with an 8.55. The MCA freshman also claimed runner-up honors to teammate Brooklyn Leichtnam on the balance beam, while tying another Magic freshman - Martha Olson - for fourth-place honors on the vault.

Senior Brooklyn Leichtnam, who battled back from a preseason knee injury, sent the judges' scorecards rolling skyward with a first-place score of 9.025 on the balance beam. Peterson claimed second at 9.0, while Magic teammate Jenna Steele netted fourth with an 8.675.

New Ulm's Michaela Howk, who generated 34.55 points to produce second-place honors in the all-around competition, captured first place on the vault with an 8.975, edging out MCA senior Mackenzie Betts. Betts tallied an 8.95, while Peterson and Olson tied for fourth place off the vault table with a pair of 8.8s.

The Eagles' Allison Rosenhamer netted an 8.925 to place third on the vault.

Howk generated an 8.4 to place second behind Peterson on the uneven bars, while the Magic's Andrea Thate delivered a third-place performance of 8.375.

New Ulm's Molly Klimek, who chalked up 33.325 points to earn third place in the all-around, posted an 8.125 to place fourth on the unevens, while Briana Gratz compiled an 8.025 to finish fifth for the Magic.

Rosenhamer (9.1) and Klimek (8.8) claimed second and third, respectively, behind Peterson on the floor, while Olson and Lexy Ringnell rounded out the top five placers with an 8.75 and an 8.6, respectively, for MCA.

Martin County Area travels to the St. Peter Armory today for a rescheduled 5 p.m. SCC dual meet with the hometown Saints.
