FAIRMONT - Students throughout the area from all religious denominations will come together this week to put on the annual Kids Against Hunger concert.

The event will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fairmont Opera House. Admission is a free-will donation that will go to purchase supplies used in the upcoming Kids Against Hunger food pack Feb. 15 at the Armory in Fairmont.

Kids Against Hunger is a humanitarian food-aid organization devoted to reducing the number of hungry children in the United States and throughout the world.

The theme for this year's fund-raising concert is "Hello, My Name Is ..." based on a song by contemporary Christian artist Matthew West, according to coordinator Paige Cowing.

"I just liked the idea of that song, that we are all the child of God," said Cowing.

The Fairmont High School junior has helped with the event for the past two years and inherited its organization this year.

"Since fall, we've been getting organized, designing and ordering T-shirts," she said.

Cowing has plenty of help for the event. About 45 to 50 students are involved both behind the scenes and as performers.

"We have 36 performers this year," she said. "One performance is a glow-in-the-dark mime skit. We also have lots of bands, singers, music and dancers. We've seen lots of creative costumes. Many are returning performers and groups, and we also have some who are here for the first time."
