CEYLON - Memorial services for Margery E. Plumhoff, 90, of Ceylon, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial will follow in Lake Belt Township Cemetery, Ceylon.
Margery passed away Wednesday evening, Jan. 8, 2014, at Lutz Wing Nursing Home in Fairmont. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont.
Margery Elaine (Wiltse) Plumhoff was born Feb. 14, 1923, in Ceylon, Minn., to Guy and Elina (Schmidt) Wiltse. Margery graduated from Ceylon High School in 1940. She attended college and graduated from the Mankato Teachers College in Mankato. Marge ended up moving with her family to Wyoming, Washington, Texas and then back to Ceylon. Marge worked various jobs:?a hardware store manager, government grocery store and the Secret Service in Washington. On March 15, 1947, she married Merle Plumhoff in Ceylon. They lived in various places, but eventually moved to a farm west of Ceylon and raised four children.
They eventually moved into Ceylon and cared for Margery's mother. Margery worked for a long time as a noon aide at the Ceylon High School. She kissed a lot of boo-boos and was everyone's "Grandma."
She also helped tutor children at the Ceylon School besides working at the library for many years. Marge was known as the "candy lady," as a lot of kids would come to her house because they knew she would have suckers for them. Merle passed away in February 2005. Margery lived in Ceylon until her failing health caused her to move into the Lutz Wing Nursing Home in Fairmont.
She was a charter member of the Nassen-Detert American Legion Auxiliary Post 529 and the United Methodist Church in Ceylon.
Those who will cherish her memory include: four children and their spouses, Linda Kling (Rick) of Welcome, Minn., Jane Leiding (Ronnie), Tom Plumhoff (Jo Ann), Jim Plumhoff (Aubrey), all of Ceylon, Minn.; grandchildren, Larry Kling (Ellen), Cody Leiding (Nicole), Mike Linn (Julie), Jacci Jahnke (Rod), Jason Linn (Amber), Travis Leiding (Angie), Heidi Bicknase (Dave), Tom Linn (Tess), Madisyn and Ellie Plumhoff; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Willard "Bud" Wiltse of Austin, Texas; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, LaJune Poppe-Wiltse, Gerry and George Hendricks, Elaine Speckman, Charlotte and John Schmidtke; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Margery was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one granddaughter, Heather Jo Plumhoff; as well as other family members.
