FAIRMONT - A funeral service for Kai R. Struss, 65, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fairmont.
Kai passed away Wednesday morning, Dec. 25, 2013, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church Tuesday.
Kai Robert Struss was born Dec. 17, 1948, in Tyler, Minn., the son of Raymond and Herdis (Bollesen) Struss. Kai went to school in Tyler and graduated in 1966. He went on to Camby Vocational School before entering the U.S. Army in 1967. He served in Vietnam while in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1970. On Sept. 17, 1983, Kai was united in marriage to Alice Peterson at First Congregational Church in Fairmont and they lived in Fairmont. Kai worked for the railroad for 30 years with the maintenance tie gang crew. He retired in 2008. He was a member of Rose Lake Golf Club and AA. He enjoyed golfing, fishing at Leech Lake, having coffee with friends and watching his Minnesota Twins and Vikings.
Those who will cherish his memory include: his wife, Alice Struss of Fairmont; one daughter, Molly Struss of Newton, Mass.; one son, Lucas Struss of Minneapolis; brother, Steve (Nancy) Strauss of Cambridge, Minn.; sister, Cathy (Jr) Stewart of Graettinger, Iowa; sister, Karen (Mike) Kelley of Tyler, Minn.; brother, Richard (Diane) Struss of Sioux Falls, S.D.; brother-in-law, Norman (Peggy) Peterson of Reno, Nev.; brother-in-law, Keith (Leslie) Peterson of Round Rock, Texas; brother-in-law, Dale (Marjorie) Peterson of Canterbury, England; sister-in-law, Mary (Jerry) of Billings, Mont.; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Kai was preceded in death by his parents; and his nephews, Bobby Lemcke and David Kelley.
