Ardeen Mae (Devine) Lowe was born July 24, 1914, in Kossuth County, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Pfeffer) Devine. Ardeen attended country school making the trek by foot through the summer months with her siblings and riding in a sleigh behind a horse in the winter months. She would later attend high school in Algona and graduate from Algona High School in Algona, Iowa. The day following her graduation, Ardeen boarded a train to Chicago where she had a summer job picking strawberries. At the end of the season, Ardeen returned home to Kossuth County and began teaching country school. Upon completion of the school year, Ardeen worked at Interlaken Park in Fairmont. It was here that she met John Robert "Bob" Lowe. On May 29, 1937, Ardeen was united in marriage to Bob Lowe at the Congregational minister's house in Fairmont, Minn. Early in their marriage, Ardeen and Bob made their home in Fairmont. In 1940, the couple moved to a farm just outside of Fairmont to help care for Bob's mother and, in 1949, the couple returned to town and built a new home. Ardeen worked for 30 years at JCPenney, retiring in 1980. In her spare time, Ardeen enjoyed reading, cooking, canning and working in her big garden. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Ardeen cherished time spent with her children and especially treasured visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed by all those who loved her. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Nancy (Ralph) Gundersen of St. Cloud, Minn., Janet Meyer of Fairmont, Minn., and Ellen Peterson of La Crosse, Wis.; grandchildren, Mark (Kathy) Gundersen, Lee (Kevin) Tracy, Kelly (Chuck) Spavin, Jody Meyer Yazici, Terry (Stevie) Meyer Matier, Chris (Kathy) Meyer, Cory Meyer, Scott Peterson, and Joe Peterson; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise Devine; four brothers, Bill (Metta) Devine, Raymond (Doris) Devine, Duane (Virginia) Devine, and David (Nancy) Devine; two sisters-in-law, Julie Devine and Elfreida Devine; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Ardeen was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Devine; husband, John Robert "Bob" Lowe; a sister, Irene Schreiber; and brothers, Clarence Devine and Robert Devine.
