GRANADA- Memorial services for Mari Lee Baker, 51, of Granada, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont with full military honors by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post #36 and the Martin County VFW Post#1222. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, from 4-7 p.m. at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Mari passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Mankato, Minn. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mari Lee (Hurley) Baker was born on May 25, 1962, in Corvallis, Ore., the daughter of Bill and Marilyn (Quinn) Hurley. As a young girl, Mari moved with her family to Arizona and attended school in Tucson, Ariz., and graduated from Tucson High School. Following her graduation, Mari enlisted in the United States Navy where she served as a cook. She would later receive her honorable discharge upon completion of her duty.
On May 27, 2005, Mari was united in marriage to Kenny Baker in Brandon, S.D. Together the couple made their home on a farm near Granada. Mari worked for a number of years at Kerry Ingredients in Blue Earth, Minn. She enjoyed traveling and throughout her lifetime, traveled to every state except Alaska. Mari had fond memories of traveling to Japan and to Las Vegas to see her son David in the Air Force. When not traveling, Mari enjoyed being outside on the farm, listening to music and cooking. She cherished time spent with her family and will be greatly missed by those who loved her and called her a friend.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Kenny Baker of Granada, Minn.; children, Lisa Marie Cocchia of Arizona, David William Cates of Las Vegas, Nev., Brandon James Baker of St. Peter, Minn., and Jamie Lynn Baker of St. James, Minn.; two grandchildren, Lucas Cocchia and Addison Lee Paulson; a sister, Heather (Jim) Vangerud of Chaska, Minn.; brother, Sidney Guthrie of Minneapolis, Minn.; in-laws, Jerry (Darlene) Baker of Mankato, Minn., Betty (Eugene) Lehmann of Northrop, Minn., James (Bonnie) Baker of Fairmont, Minn., and David (Kim) Baker of Illinois; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Mari was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Marilyn Hurley; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Irene E. and James F. Baker; and a sister-in-law, Marvel Eickoff.
