FAIRMONT - Sixty students at Fairmont High School will take the stage at the Performing Arts Center from Sunday through Friday to present "Tarzan."

"It's just a great family show," said Cliff Janke, director. "It's the Disney version, and we're really having fun with it. Phil Collins wrote all the music."

The on-stage participants are supported by a pit orchestra of 25 members and a technical crew of seven, and the jungle set was built by Ryan Howell.

Tarzan and Jane, played by Zach Brown and Courtney Guetter, practice swinging from the vines for Fairmont High School’s upcoming production of “Tarzan.”

"He and the kids did an awesome job with it," Janke said. "The kids in the cast did all the painting on stage and all the decorations."

The cast will wear a combination of masks and makeup, he said.

"The leads all have masks," Janke said. "The [students portraying] birds and special flowers designed their own makeup. Typically, they do their own makeup, but the boys often find a girl to do theirs."

Tari Riley choreographed the show. Roxy Janke is in charge of sound, and Keisha Glinke is supervising the lighting. A group of the parents sewed the costumes, Janke said.

The opening performance of "Tarzan" will be 3 p.m. Sunday. Performances also will be held 7:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with the traditional free matinee for senior citizens at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students, and tickets are available at the door.
