FAIRMONT - Memorial services for Ruth Mae Simmons, 86, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Lakeview Funeral Home, Fairmont, Minn., with Rev. Wade Daul of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Fairmont, officiating. Burial will follow the service in Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, Fairmont.
Ruth was called to her eternal home Tuesday evening, Nov. 5, 2013, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont. Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont.
Ruth was born Nov. 24, 1927, in Lakefield, Minn., to Lehnard and Helena VanWesten. She attended Mankato Commercial College and completed her bookkeeping training there. Ruth was married to Don Simmons on Dec. 23, 1950, and had five children together and were married for 48 years. Ruth retired as a bookkeeper for Wallace's Department Store in Fairmont. She enjoyed golf, playing cards, traveling, visiting grandchildren and great-grandchildren and helping at her church. Ruth was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Interlaken Golf Club, Red Hat Society, and Fairmont Fire Fighters Auxiliary. Ruth had a wonderful sense of humor and retained her sense of humor until her passing.
Ruth is survived by her five children, Kathy Ingle and husband Keith of Sheridan, Colo., Gloria Hulsether and husband Todd of Fargo, Minn., Bruce Simmons and wife Ann of Mankato, Minn., Sheree Carroll and husband David of Fairmont, Minn., and Patricia Elmshauser and husband John of Aurora, Colo. Ruth had 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Donald; mother and father, Lehnard and Helena VanWesten; mother and father-in-law, Mark and Ida Simmons; her brother, Ernest VanWesten; and sister, Bertha Muzikar.
