PIPESTONE - The Fairmont Cardinals volleyball team beat Canby and went 1-2 for a sixth-place team finish in the Pipestone tournament on Saturday in Pipestone.
Southwest Christian and Lakeview each dealt the Cardinals 2-0 losses, winning 25-18, 25-19 and 18-25, 25-16, 15-11, respectively.
Fairmont responded though by beating Canby 25-14, 25-19 in pool play.
Kayla Lardy smacked a team-leading 25 kills in addition to serving up four aces and making five blocks for the Cardinals.
Courtney Mosloski and Kersten Shantz added depth to the Fairmont offense, providing 10 and seven kills, respectively.
Emily Kim distributed 51 set assists throughout the tournament, while crushing four ace serves.
Kristen Campe backed up the Cardinal defense as defensive specialist with 36 digs, while Sydney Glienke made 34 digs for Fairmont.
Fairmont (7-13, 5-4 SCC) travels for a South Central Conference match at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. Peter.
The Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain Knights finished 1-4 at the Southwest Minnesota State University Invitational Tournament on Saturday in Marshall.
Dawson-Boyd handed the Knights a 25-16, 25-9 opening round loss during pool play on Friday, before the Knights outlasted New Ulm 25-17, 14-25, 16-14 in the second round.
With a 1-1 finish on Day 1, the Knights were into the second-place bracket, but went 0-3 on Day 2.
Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop won 25-18, 25-12, while Legacy Christian won 25-14, 25-23.
United South Central then ended the Knights' tournament run with a 25-11, 25-20 victory.
Hunter Payne doled out 55 set assists in the tournament, while Rachel Shumski recorded a team-leading 14 kills and nine blocks.
Danielle Schreader added depth to the Knights attack with 13 kills and four blocks, while Amber Schulz smacked 12 kills and made 25 digs.
