Lorvin Henry Laue was born July 11, 1924, on the family farm in Silver Lake Township to parents Dietrich and Martha (Linnemeyer) Laue. He was baptized on Aug. 3, 1924, and later confirmed on April 10, 1938, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilbert. Lorvin also attended school at the St. Paul's Lutheran School in Wilbert until he began helping his brother and father on the family farm.

On May 11, 1958, Lorvin was united in marriage to Dorothy Zempel at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fairmont, Minn. Together the couple made their home on the family farm in Silver Lake Township. Lorvin farmed for many years raising grain and livestock with his father, Dietrich and brother, Werner. Lorvin also worked at Stokley's and drove the road grader for Silver Lake Township for many years.
