FAIRMONT - Private family service for Alton D. Parks, 86, of Fairmont, Minn., will be held at a later date. Alton passed away on Friday afternoon, Sept. 13, 2013, at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Alton Date Parks was born on March 18, 1927, in Mankato, Minn. He was the son of Roy and Edna (Cummings) Parks. He attended school in Byron, Minn.
Alton enlisted in the U.S. Marines on Oct. 11, 1950. After serving in Korea he received an honorable discharge on Dec. 27, 1951.
On June 6, 1959, Alton was united in marriage to Darlene Klint in Mankato, Minn. This union was blessed with three children, Patrice, Michael, and Kellie. The couple lived in Mankato before moving to Crosby, Minn. Alton managed the gas company in Crosby, Minn., Ironton, Minn., and Deerwood, Minn. They later moved to Fairmont and had shared 54 years together.
Alton was a member of the V.F.W. in Kalispell, Mont. He enjoyed riding horses and reading. He and Darlene especially loved traveling around the U.S. together.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Darlene Parks of Fairmont, Minn,; children, Patrice Parks of Shanghai, China, Michael (Jen) McDaeth of Seattle, Wash., and Kellie (Victor) von Beck of Everett, Wash.; grandsons, Manny, Connor and Blue; granddaughter, Ocean; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Along with his parents, Roy and Edna Parks, Alton was also preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.
