Teacher wins scrapbook contest

ESTHERVILLE, Iowa - It was the first time Ann Hansen of Estherville entered a national contest for scrapbooking. As luck would have it, she struck gold.

"I've been scrapbooking since I was a senior in high school," recalled Hansen, who is a special education teacher at North Union High School in Armstrong. "It was around the time that stamping had become popular, and then the bookstore started the scrapbooking. I got a scrapbook for graduation, and it just took off from there."

While Hansen has scrapbooked in local contests and done some weekend retreats, she never thought about entering a national competition until she learned about the BoBunny contest through the Outlet store.

This scrapbook page made by Ann Hansen of Estherville won a national contest sponsored by BoBunny scrapbooking supplies.

"It was during the summer, so I thought, 'OK,'" Hansen said. "They had the kits for the contest, the paper, the stickers. What we had to do was create a one-page layout with the kit only. The only thing we added was the pictures. The theme was 'Let's Go Wild,' and the paper was all safari-themed."

Fortunately for Hansen, she recently had taken her 2-year-old son on his first trip to the zoo, which fit perfectly with the theme.

"The theme was 'wild,' so I knew I wanted that on the page," she said.

After finishing, she thought nothing more of it until she learned she had won.

"I really was shocked, because I didn't expect to win," Hansen said.

She says she might enter more national contests if her schedule allows.

"I know there is another one coming up," she said. "But whether I do it or not depends on how busy I am."
