WATERTOWN, S.D. - Graveside services for Harriet V. True, 96, of Watertown, S.D., will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at Center Creek Cemetery, Granada, Minn., with Reverend Lyle Avant, officiating.
Harriet passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown. There will be no visitation.
Harriet Vivian True was born May 14, 1917, in Watertown, S.D., to Hugh and Laura (Vetter) Gatchell. She attended school in Watertown, where she graduated from Watertown High School, and then graduated from Watertown Business College. She married Richard W. True on Oct. 29, 1938, in Watertown. The couple lived in Huron, S.D., for a short time and then moved to the home farm in Granada, Minn., until 1965. They moved to Watertown, where Harriet was a bookkeeper at Blue Valley Creamery. Richard passed away Aug. 19, 1986. Home and family were the center of Harriet's existence. She was lively, funny and loved a good joke. She excelled in making crepe paper May baskets and homemade Halloween costumes. She also enjoyed ceramics, needlework and reading.
Harriet is survived by three daughters, Connie (Bob) Wolter of Aitkin, Minn., Kathy True and Jeanie True, both of Watertown; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Beatrice Gatchell of Maudlin, S.C.; and one brother-in-law, Phil Zimmerman of Rapid City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; her grandson, Patrick Wolter; her great-granddaughter, Elise Strege; one brother, Chuck Gatchell; and one sister, Donna Zimmerman.
