FHS downs BEA, LSH to capture triangular

LE SUEUR - The Fairmont Cardinal girls tennis team posted a pair of dual-meet victories to capture the Le Sueur-Henderson triangular on Friday in Le Sueur.

The Cardinals opened their season by producing a 5-2 victory over the host Giants before edging South Central Conference rival Blue Earth Area by a 4-3 decision.

With the Cardinals and Bucs knotted at 3-all in the team competition, Allison Moeller generated a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Lindsey Prokop at third singles to swing the meet-winning point to Fairmont.

Aubrey Green and Missy Viesselman generated two of the Cardinals' point during singles-bracket action. Green served a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Karleigh Wolff at the No. 1 position in the lineup, while Viesselman downed Kaitlyn Olsen at the No. 2 spot, 6-4, 6-1.

The third doubles combination of Briana Gratz and Andrea Carstensen tallied Fairmont's other team point via back-to-back 6-1 set wins over Lacey Benz and Annaliese Klinkner.

Karli Olsen and Natali Fellows teamed up at No. 1 doubles to chalk up one of the Bucs' three team points. Olsen and Fellows downed Abby Fitzgerald and Sophie Shelgren, 6-2, 6-3.

Bekah Krussow and Paige Darrington posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jill Paris and Shantel Quist at second doubles, while Buc teammate Anikka Wilhelmi downed Ellie Tonder at fourth singles, 6-4, 6-1.

In Fairmont's opening dual meet, the singles trio of Green, Viesselman and Moeller generated straight-set victories to help pace a 5-2 team triumph.

Green coasted to back-to-back 6-2 set wins over Breanna Schug at the top spot in the bracket, Viesselman breezed by Katelyn Hank at the No. 2 position, 6-1, 6-1, while Moeller shut out Kat Chadwick at the No. 3 spot.

Fitzgerald and Tonder combined court skills to net a 6-2, 6-1 win over LSH's Janie Schwartz and Amelia Froelich at second doubles, while the Cardinals' Gratz and Carstensen captured a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Acy Adamzak and Erica Cronk at third doubles.

The Giants' Kennedy Straub received an illness default from Shelgren during their fourth singles match, while LSH's Katherine Cronk and Tracy Eischens netted a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Paris and Quist at No. 1 doubles.

In an exhibition match, LSH's Maddy Meyer and Ann Fraser outlasted Fairmont's Madyson Plumhoff and Anagha Komaragiri, 6-4, 6-4.

In the other portion of the LSH triangular, Blue Earth Area coasted to a 7-0 shutout over the hosts Giants.

The Bucs' Wolff blanked Schug, 6-0, 6-0, at the first singles position, while Kaitlyn Olsen defeated Hank, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 2 singles.

Prokop outlasted a second-set comeback by the Giants' Chadwick, winning 6-4, 7-6 (7-0), before Wilhelmi completed Blue Earth Area's sweep of the singles bracket with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Straub.

Krussow and Darrington teamed up for a 6-0, 6-1, victory over Schwartz and Froelich at the second doubles spot.

Karli Olsen and Fellows won their second match of the day with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Katherine Cronk and Eischens at No. 1 doubles, with the Bucs' Kali Viland and Angie Cyphers finishing off the sweep of the match with back-to-back 6-2 set victories over Erica Cronk and Adamzak in third doubles.

Fairmont (2-0) plays host to United South Central in a non-league dual meet at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Cardinal Courts.

Blue Earth Area (4-1) travels to Belle Plaine on Monday for a 4:30 p.m. nonconference dual meet.
