To the Editor:
When this journey began back in November 2012, I never imagined there would be such an outpouring of support for myself and my family. It has been both a humbling and learning experience. My mother used to say, "Graciously accept the kindness of others." This is not such an easy thing to do. I have also learned the power of kind words can get you through the most difficult of days.
"Thank you" seems so inadequate for all the generosity I have been the beneficiary of. There are literally hundreds of individuals, families and businesses who have contributed in one way or another to my well-being, this through the "Bene-party" on May 18, before that, and since then. I won't even attempt to name names.
During the planning stages for the bene-party, a group of 20+ women came together, and gave of their time and talents to organize what turned out to be an awesome event. The atmosphere of the party was just that ... a party. Just what I had hoped for. Nearly 1,000 people enjoyed a fun-filled evening by getting reacquainted with old friends, and the young people in attendance got to witness how their hometown rallies to support one of its own. It was truly a celebration of what living in a small town is all about. The greatest result of the planning of the bene-party is new friendships have been formed because of the event.
As this challenge continues, I am constantly reminded of why I have chosen to live in the community I was born in. I have been immeasurably blessed to grow up in and raise my daughter in such a caring place.
As for the future, we will continue to live by the "Golden Rule" and we will be "Makin' Lemonade." Thank you all.
