Warriors nip Indians, 5-4

POCAHONTAS, Iowa - The North Union Warriors baseball team scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning to come back and defeat the Pocahontas Indians on Tuesday night in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Garrett Johnson went 2-for-2 with a run scored to pace the Warriors offense, while Sawyer Doocy went 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.

Jake Adams smacked a double in going 1-for-3 for North Union at the plate and Cody Runksmeier added a pair of runs scored, going 1-for-3 in the game.

Corey Vaske started on the hill for the Warriors, pitching five innings and allowing four runs on four hits, striking out three and walking one to take a no-decision.

Cody Runksmeier closed out the final two innings, striking out three, walking one and allowing just one hit to earn the win.

Alex Deitering and Spencer Ricke each added a hit for the Warriors in the win.

North Union (20-8) plays host to Manson-Northwest Webster in a 7:30 p.m. game today in Bancroft.

North Union 18, 14, Corwith-Wesley-Luverne 0, 0 - The Class 2A, No. 1-ranked Warriors swept the Panthers in a pair of three-inning victories on Monday in Luverne, Iowa.

Dena Looft went a perfect 2-for-2 from the plate, with two runs scored and three RBIs to help pace the Warriors to an 18-0 win in Game 1.

Allie Ingalls went 2-for-4, including a triple to drive in an RBI and score a run for North Union.

Autumn Boland went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a trio of RBIs, while Sara Johnson and Peyton Oleson went 2-for-3 with one run scored and two and three RBIs, respectively.

Cheyanne Boland went 3-for-4 with three doubles as she knocked in four RBIs for the Warriors.

Ingalls struck out eight of the nine batters she faced to earn the win.

Ingalls was a home run away from the cycle, going 3-for-4 with a single, double and a triple to lead the Warriors to a 14-0 win in Game 2.

Cheyanne Boland went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Collete Haag and Looft went 1-for-2 in the game.

Autumn Boland, Sarah Rolling and Johnson each smacked a double in the win.

Ingalls faced 10 batters, allowing just one hit in two games, striking out four and walking none to earn the shut out.

North Union (30-2) plays host to Manson-Northwest Webster in a 6 p.m. game today in Swea City.
