Deloris L. Odegaard

FAIRMONT - Memorial services for Deloris L. Odegaard, 81, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 1, 2013, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial will be following the service in Lake Belt Cemetery near Ceylon.

Deloris passed away Thursday afternoon, June 27, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Fairmont. Friends may visit the family from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Deloris Lynn (Prust) Odegaard was born Jan. 30, 1932, in Galveston, Texas, the daughter of Vernon W. and Ida Christine (Messer) Prust. As a young girl, Deloris moved to Ceylon, Minn., where she attended school and graduated from Ceylon High School in 1949. On June 5, 1949, Deloris was united in marriage to Norman R. Odegaard. Together the couple made their home on the family farm on the edge of Ceylon and was blessed with seven children. Deloris worked for her parents at their caf for a number of years and also worked as a cook at Ceylon High School. Following their retirement from farming, Deloris and Norman enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona for over 30 years. While in Arizona, Deloris worked for H&R Block and also at the Apache Swap Meet in Apache Junction. In her spare time, Deloris enjoyed painting, working in her garden, crocheting, embroidery and cooking. She will be remembered for her famous brownies and fudge.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ben (Sally) Odegaard of Fairmont, Minn., Steve (Sandra) Odegaard of Welcome, Minn., Gale (Rhoda) Odegaard of Ceylon, Minn., Gloria (Richard) Nelson of Fairmont, Minn., Shirley (Randy) Cunningham of New Market, Minn., and John Paul (Stephanie) Odegaard of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Gellert of Fairmont, Minn., and Nova (Steve) Boughton of Brainerd, Minn.; one brother-in-law, Joel Thiesse of St. James, Minn.; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Deloris was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Christine Prust; one daughter, Helen Brenden and her husband, George Brenden; one grandson, William Odegaard; one sister, Betty Thiesse; three brothers-in-law, Arnold Odegaard, Roland Gellert, and Marvin Odegaard; and two sisters-in-law, May Odegaard and Helen Odegaard.
