Post 36 tramples St. Peter

FAIRMONT - The Fairmont American Legion Post 36 baseball team went a combined 7-for-7 to open up a 10-3 victory over St. Peter Post 37 on Thursday at Herb Wolf Field in Fairmont.

Christian Petschke then shut down St. Peter's bats, giving up just one run on two hits, striking out three and walking five in 4 1/3 innings to earn the win.

"Christian pitched well tonight, and did a good enough job for us to get the win," said Fairmont head coach Scott Chirpich. "Our fielding behind him was shaky at times but he did a good job."

Luke Becker started the hit parade with a slicing single to right center, before Spencer Chirpich slapped a hit to right to reach first, moving Luke Becker to second.

Levi Becker knocked a third hit into right field, scoring Luke Becker from second and moving Chirpich to third.

Jay Ruen drove in Chirpich and Levi Becker with a blast to centerfield for a single.

Noll added the fifth single of the inning with a shot to left field.

Petschke delivered an RBI single, scoring Ruen from second and moving Noll to third, but was thrown out going to second.

Jack Waletich finished off the hitting streak to start the game with a base hit, scoring Noll.

Ben Gratz reached on an error, as Waletich wheeled to second, and another error allowed Jordan Voss to reach.

In his second at-bat of the inning, Luke Becker pounded a hit over the right fielder for a double, scoring Gratz and Voss to take the 7-0 lead after one.

Ryan Noll, who pitched 2 2/3 innings, giving up two runs, striking out five and walking two in relief, finished 3-for-4 from the plate with two run scored and an RBI.

Luke Becker also finished 3-for-4, with one run scored and two RBIs.

Levi Becker went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, Gratz went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, and Petschke finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Fairmont American Legion Post 36 (3-1) travels to Mankato for a tournament this weekend.

Fairmont 5, New Ulm 4 - Fairmont Legion Post 36 baseball team beat New Ulm 5-4 on Monday in New Ulm.

Levi Becker led Fairmont with three hits and two runs scored, while Luke Becker ripped a double and had a run scored.

Ryan Noll added a pair of hits, including an RBI double, along with Andy Reiter's double in the win.

Jordan Voss and Ben Gratz each had an RBI single for Fairmont.

Voss pitched three innings, giving up four runs - three earned - on six hits, striking out one, walking one and hitting a batter to take the no decisioin.

Jay Ruen pitched the final four innings, holding New Ulm to just two hits and striking out one to earn the win.

Grant Kannegiesser had a pair of hits and a run scored to top New Ulm's efforts, while Chase Meyer had an RBI double.

Meyer pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, striking out two and walking two to absorb the loss.
