Donna Gay (Burnes) Pellegrino was born July 13, 1936, in Colorado Springs, Colo., the daughter of Theada (Fimple) Burnes. She was raised in Colorado Springs until she attended the Loretta Academy in Santa Fe, N.M. Donna was adopted by William F. Kuert after he married her mother and they moved to California, where she graduated from Jordan High School in Long Beach, Calif., in 1955.
Donna married James Richard McCartney on April 23, 1957, in Prescott, Ariz., and they made their home in Long Beach, Calif., where she raised her two sons, Randy and David. She enjoyed the many activities she shared with her husband and sons, such as fishing, camping, boating, drag racing and the many outings they would spend with their close family friends in Mexico. On Feb. 10, 1980, Donna married Marco V. Pellegrino and they lived in Santa Ana, Calif., where they started their military technical writing business until his death in 1988. In October 1991, Donna moved from Fountain Valley, Calif., to Fairmont, Minn., to live closer to her younger son, David, and his family. Donna would spend her winter months visiting her oldest son, Randy, and family in Prescott, Ariz. Donna worked for various companies since moving to Fairmont, such as Pic Sweet Foods, Teledyne, Fairmont Opera House, Social Security Administration, and the Salvation Army Corps as a cook. Donna retired from the Sentinel newspaper in 2012 after many years working in the circulation department. In her spare time, Donna loved to travel with family and friends to various places and casinos, but her biggest joy in life as she got older was her one granddaughter and four grandsons. She will be truly missed by her son, Randy, and family and all the many friends she has had over the years.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Randy and daughter-in-law, Penny; daughter-in-law, Jody McCartney; granddaughter, Morgan McCartney; grandsons, Jonathan McCartney, Jordan Wagner, Christopher McCartney and Brandon McCartney; and a brother, Richard Kuert and his wife, Ronelle, of Elk Grove, Calif.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; and her youngest son, David.
